There's no excuse not to use them, all you have to do is drag and drop a file. Without the background mod at least, the whole game looks like a blurry, jagged pile of crap. The graphical mods are what is necessary on a modern PC monitor in order to make the game look like it did on the PSX on a standard def TV. This is a person who has not tried the graphical mods. Remastered graphic by SE is fine enough (original release also is fine enough), I'm not saying that mods are bad and not worth to use, they are just not essential and they aren't changing much, every normal person (no graphic master race) will enjoy VIII with its basic graphic. Nope, this game doesn't need any mods EXCEPT for psx music mod (this is absolutely essential mod for VIII, I would not play this game without this).
